Research peptide storage: a practical laboratory checklist
Learn what to verify before storing a research peptide: supplier instructions, lot identity, transport conditions and laboratory recordkeeping.
Start with the actual product information
Storage requirements are product- and formulation-specific. Do not assume that one temperature, light condition or handling rule applies to every peptide or laboratory material.
Use the condition stated on the product label or supplier-issued handling information. If that information is absent or inconsistent, ask the supplier before accepting or storing the item.
Create a receiving record
A simple receiving record helps a laboratory track material after delivery. Capture the compound identity, catalogue number, package condition and date received.
- Match the package label to the order and catalogue profile.
- Check whether the stated storage condition is present and legible.
- Record the catalogue number and date received.
- Note visible shipping or packaging concerns and ask the supplier to clarify them.
Follow your institution’s approved procedure
Laboratory teams should use their own approved storage, access-control and incident-reporting procedures. If a material changes appearance or its handling information is incomplete, hold it for review rather than infer fitness from appearance alone.
This article intentionally does not prescribe temperatures, stability periods or suitability claims because those require product-specific evidence.
